Short answer
Tody is the better choice for most people: it decides what is due by how dirty each task is getting rather than by fixed dates, has slightly more ratings and is updated regularly. Sweepy suits couples and families who want a daily schedule made for each person and a leaderboard. Both are free to download with paid upgrades.

We make ADHD Cleaning Planner, a cleaning app of our own, so we have an interest in this market even though our app is not one of the two compared here. Our aim is a fair answer, which includes saying plainly which app suits whom.
Sweepy and Tody are the two best-known cleaning schedule apps, and they look alike at first glance: both split your home into rooms, both track which tasks need doing, both turn chores into a bit of a game, and both are free to download with a paid upgrade. The differences are in how they decide what is due, how they handle a household, and how actively they are being updated. If you want the wider field, we also compared eight cleaning apps side by side.
Quick comparison
Start with what each app has. A ✓ means the store listing says so; a ✗ means it did not on the day we checked.
| Feature | ||
|---|---|---|
| iPhone and iPad | ✓ | ✓ |
| Android | ✓ | ✓ |
| Apple Watch | ✓ | ✗ |
| Household sharing | ✓ | ✓ |
| Daily plan made for each person | ✓ | ✗ |
| Pause seasonal tasks | ✗ | ✓ |
| Free trial listed | ✓ | ✗ |
| No ads on Android | ✓ | ✗ |
| Updated in the last three months | ✗ | ✓ |
Then the details. What each app costs depends on your country and changes often, so this table says how each is paid for, not the price.
| App | Platforms | How it is paid for | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Android | Free to download; monthly or yearly subscription with a 3-day trial | Couples and families who want a daily schedule per person and a leaderboard | Check what the free version includes before setting up; fewer recent updates | |
| iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android | Free to download; paid Premium plans for one person or for households | Most people, from singles to large households, who dislike fixed dates | The Android version shows ads; sharing is part of Premium |
On ratings the two are close. On the App Store, Tody is rated 4.8 from about 10,700 ratings and Sweepy 4.7 from about 10,600. On Google Play, Tody is rated 4.7 from about 21,600 and Sweepy 4.5 from about 18,400. Both show more than a million downloads on Google Play.
What is Sweepy good at?
Sweepy tracks how clean each room in your home is, works out which tasks are most urgent, and then does the planning for you: it automatically generates a daily cleaning schedule for each person in the household and spreads the workload between them. Progress is visible, the app syncs between devices, and a leaderboard lets everyone compete for the top spot.
That leaderboard is the thing people talk about most. In public reviews we analysed in June 2026, couples and families praised it for turning chores into a friendly competition and for ending arguments about who did what. Reviewers also often described Sweepy as easy to use and said it took the mental load of keeping track off their minds. It runs on more Apple devices than Tody, including Apple Watch.
Less good: in those same June 2026 reviews, the most common complaint was about what is free. Reviewers said features such as the daily schedule, custom tasks and adding family members were part of the subscription, which some discovered only after setting up their whole home, and several felt the 3-day trial was too short to judge the app. Another recurring complaint was that an account is needed before you can try the app. On the day we checked, the App Store version was last updated in February 2026 and the Google Play version in November 2025.
Best for: couples and families who want the app to hand each person a plan for the day, and who are motivated by a scoreboard.
What is Tody good at?
Tody works the other way round from a calendar. Every task carries an indicator that fills up as it gets dirtier, and you clean whatever is closest to needing it. You can choose between three modes, Relaxed, Standard and Proactive, pause seasonal tasks such as weeding in winter, and turn notifications on or off. Household members can sync their plans and check in to claim credit, a feature called FairShare helps a household agree on how chores are split, and you can take on challenges to beat Dusty, the app's dust character, or set prizes. The latest App Store update added Reports, an overview of your cleaning progress.
Tody has been on the App Store since 2013 and is actively updated: on the day we checked, its App Store version had been updated in August 2026 and its Google Play version in September 2026. The public reviews we analysed in June 2026 were warmest about three things: how it splits a home into jobs small enough to face, how much the free version already covers, and the Dusty challenges, which reviewers said got partners and children to join in.
Less good: on Android, Tody shows ads, according to its Google Play listing. The complaint that came up most in those same reviews was that adding a partner, or a second device, means paying for Premium, and a 2025 price change was criticised by people who had used the app for years. Some reviewers also asked for more specific scheduling, such as a fixed day of the month, or a calendar view, because the indicator approach does not work with set dates.
Best for: almost anyone, and especially people who find fixed cleaning dates stressful and would rather see what needs attention.
How do Sweepy and Tody differ day to day?
The biggest practical difference is who makes the plan. Sweepy builds a schedule for you each day, per person, from the state of your rooms. Tody shows you which tasks are getting dirty and leaves the choice of what to do today more to you, shaped by the mode you picked. If you want to open an app and be told exactly what to do, Sweepy leans that way. If you want an overview and the freedom to decide, Tody does.
Both work for households, but in different styles. Sweepy's leaderboard makes it a competition. Tody's check-ins, FairShare and prizes are more about agreeing on a fair split. In the reviews we analysed, both apps drew praise from families and both drew complaints that sharing costs money, so expect to pay for either if you want more than one person in the plan.
Neither app is designed around ADHD, but in our June 2026 review analysis many people with ADHD praised both, mostly for the way they break a home into small, manageable pieces. That matches what tends to work with ADHD in general, as we describe in a cleaning routine built to survive a bad week.
Where ADHD Cleaning Planner falls short
ADHD Cleaning Planner is our app, and it takes a different angle: it is built around ADHD, with rooms broken into small steps, a ten-minute timer, and a "Help, I can't start!" countdown for the moments when starting at all feels impossible. There is no account to create, and it is paid for with a monthly or yearly subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase. But compared with Sweepy and Tody, there are real reasons to choose one of them instead:
- No household sharing. You cannot invite a partner, give each person their own daily plan, or compete on a leaderboard. If you are splitting chores in a family, Sweepy and Tody are built for exactly that and will serve you better.
- Far fewer ratings. It has only been out since December 2025, and it is rated 4.8 on the App Store from 90 ratings and 4.6 on Google Play from 46, against well over ten thousand ratings on each store for both Sweepy and Tody. Tody has a track record going back to 2013, and we do not.
- No Apple Watch app. Sweepy has one on its App Store listing; ours does not.
Which one should you choose?
- You want the best fit for most homes: Tody. Its ratings are a little higher on both stores, it has been around since 2013, it is updated regularly, and it decides what is due by need rather than by date.
- You share a home and want the app to split the work into a plan per person: Sweepy, especially if a leaderboard would motivate your household. Check the free version's limits before you set up every room.
- You want to agree on a fair split rather than compete: Tody, with its check-ins and FairShare.
- You want an Apple Watch app: Sweepy lists one; Tody does not.
- You are on Android and do not want ads: the Sweepy listing on Google Play does not mention ads; Tody's does.
- You live alone, have ADHD, and your problem is starting rather than knowing what to clean: both can help, and ADHD Cleaning Planner is built for that, though it has none of the sharing features above.
Both are free to download, so you can try each before paying. Set up one or two rooms first rather than the whole house, so you find out what the free version covers before you have put an evening into it.
How we compared these apps
Everything about platforms, payment, ratings, update dates and features comes from each app's public App Store and Google Play listings, checked on 25 September 2026. Ratings are rounded the way the stores round them, and rating counts are approximate. In the checkmark table, a ✗ means the listing did not mention that feature on that date. The review themes come from our own analysis of public App Store and Google Play reviews in June 2026: they record what reviewers said then, not proven facts about either app, and some points may have changed since. We left prices out because they differ between countries and change often. We have not run a structured test of either app. ADHD Cleaning Planner is ours, and we have held it to the same standard as the other two.

Is Sweepy or Tody better for couples and families?
Both are built for households. Sweepy generates a daily schedule for each person and ranks everyone on a leaderboard. Tody lets household members sync, claim credit for what they did and agree on how chores are shared. In public reviews we analysed in June 2026, sharing was a paid feature in both apps.
Do Sweepy and Tody work on Android?
Yes. Both are on Google Play as well as the App Store, and both show more than a million downloads on Google Play. On Apple devices, both run on iPhone, iPad and Mac, and Sweepy also lists Apple Watch.
